Praxis Writing Task 1
A space of pure contradiction, a borderless space that leaves you suspended in the centre of infinity – how this is possible, I am not entirely sure and yet it is very possible in Kusama’s world. The all-encompassing intensity of the Infinity Room can be simultaneously liberating and frightening. There is tension in this space between that which is so real it terrifies and that which is so whimsically unreal it captivates. I remember reading somewhere that Kusama wants to obliterate her existence, to dissolve herself into the space around her and by stepping into the Infinity Room it is not dissimilar to stepping into her psyche - A world that has been haunted by hallucinations since childhood. What is most perplexing about being alone in this space is that you experience the scale of the microscopic while simultaneously glimpsing infinity.
